Tess

Everything that you are going through - good and bad, is preparing you for your purpose in the world.
— Tess Millhollon

Tess is an inventive entrepreneur and author who is passionate about connecting women, especially through the avenue of travel. Having spent time backpacking through Australia on her own, staying on the couches and ships of locals, she wanted to find a way to provide other solo female travelers with accessibility to safer, more affordable accommodations. With these goals in mind, she became the Founder and CEO of the app HerHouse, a platform that matches women embarking on new journeys with female, background-checked hosts. Through this medium, she is helping to put authenticity and security on the forefront of the travel experience. Meet Tess. This is her story.

K: Please introduce yourself!

T: Hi I’m Tess! I am originally from a small mountain town in Colorado USA but I’ve been in Texas for about 10 years. I am an author and tech entrepreneur helping solo women travel safely.

K: Describe yourself in your own words

T: I am a freedom and adventure loving woman. As an avid writer, I spend every morning writing and praying when I have my coffee. I enjoy working out and staying very active. My solo travels have now turned into traveling with my husband, and we love trips on our Harley. I’m in awe of the world around me and take joy in nature in all its forms.

K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that has defined you or made you stronger?

T: My season of solo traveling was a very defining and life changing time in my life. I tell the story in vivid detail in my solo travel memoir, Sherbet Skies. I spent time living on sailing yachts while backpacking Australia and it was a time of true transformation. I found closeness with God, the love of my husband, and confidence in myself. I am an advocate for women to travel solo because I know how life changing it can be.

K: What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?

T: Everything that you are going through - good and bad, is preparing you for your purpose in the world.

K: What does being a woman mean to you?

T: For me, it means learning to love my body and to appreciate it instead of telling it that it’s not enough or that it needs to change.

K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to them if they were here now?

T: Whitney Wolfe Herd is an inspiration to me because she is one of the youngest female self-made billionaires who did it through a female centric dating app. If she were here now, I would thank her for breaking ceilings and paving the way for women in tech.
