Adrienne

You are you, it’s the only person you will ever be. Just be the best version of yourself. People will judge you, have an opinion on everything and anything. So I would say, stay true to yourself. Remember just be you.
— Adrienne Dallyn

Adrienne has a powerful mind and a sensitive soul. Despite all difficulties, her endurance has allowed her to keep going. When she ran the London Marathon, she pushed her strength to the ultimate test. This took two years of preparation, and it proved to be her saving grace during a particularly tough time of lockdowns. Competing in the marathon not only demonstrated her abilities, but it also provided her with lifetime friendships. Adrienne is incredibly driven, adamant about proving herself capable and pushing the boundaries. She sees adversity as an opportunity and life as an adventure. Meet Adrienne. This is her story.

P: Please introduce yourself!

A: Hi Everyone, I’m Ady. A mum to twin daughters, a crazy Cornish girl who loves to run, has fallen in love with the ocean & wears their heart on their sleeve.

P: Describe or define yourself in your own words.

A: I would describe my self as motivated, strong mined yet sensitive.

Being motivated will get you far, whether it’s to be best mother you can be, the best at your work or simply motivated to get up & go. But motivation is nothing if your mind isn’t strong. A strong mind takes you that step further, it pushes you to places you didn’t see possible. When your feeling at your ‘limit’.

Your mind will steady you. Your mind will take you further then your body may allow. Your mind is the most powerful thing you have. However being sensitive, allows you to have a heart, to let people in and to listen to others.

P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

A: Tricky, being someone that has suffered hugely with confidence, i’s definitely a harder question to answer. However I guess, it’s my ability to keep going.

Even if I’m told it’s ‘impossible’ , I will always keep going.

I love the quote ‘nothing is impossible, even the word itself has possible in it’.

I’m adventurous & active and I love to keep going, pushing boundaries I wasn’t aware I even had.

P: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that has defined you or made you stronger?

A: I have so many stories I could write about that has made me stronger as person, as a mum, as a women. However one of those is more of a recent adventure, and one that others may not be able to relate to, which is ok. That’s what this is about, right? Reading other women’s stories.

I will be for ever grateful for the iconic race, London Marathon. It got me through so much, 2 years in the making. This race brought me friends that will most certainly be for life, this race kept me away from the dark days that lockdown provided, it opened my eye to my body’s capabilities, it proved my mind is strong. Most of all, it taught me valuable lessons when I was ‘out there’. It showed me how there is still so much good in the world. All runners where out there for their own reasons, memories, raising awareness, proving they can, fighting their own battles. I could tell that this meant so much to so many people, it was important. I could also see how it brought strangers together, it brought smiles, laughter, support and with every mile passed it gave me memories & lessons. I honestly will never forget this day, every time I talk about it I smile, I reminisce. That run changed something in me that day.

P: What is one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

A: I would tell myself, not to care what other people think of you. You are you, it’s the only person you will ever be. Just be the best version of yourself. People will judge you, have an opinion on everything and anything. So I would say, stay true to yourself. Remember just be you.

P: What does being a woman mean to you?

A: Being a women means just being me. It means being a mum, it means being someone my girls look up to, keeping them safe. It means being strong even when you may feel weak.

P: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say if they were here now?

A: It’s really hard to choose one women that inspires me. I have met so many truly inspirational females. I take a bit of inspiration from each and everyone, it motivates me & I hope it inspires someone else to do the same.
