Lynn
When Lynn is around, you’re bound to be in a good mood. She doesn’t take herself too seriously. She has a presence, and a sense of humour, that lights up the room. She’s someone who won’t sit still until everyone around her has a full glass (or mug) and is well looked after. Meet Lynn. This is her story.
P: Please introduce yourself!
L: I am a mother of 4 children and grandmother of 7 children. I have a great love of sports, in particular hockey (Ottawa Senators). Travel and outdoors have always been a keen interest of mine.
P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?
L: I believe I have the ability to make people laugh and maybe also at times to console.
P: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that has defined you or made you stronger?
L: Many years ago I decided to become a volunteer - this was not an easy decision for me. I found myself working in a hospital with chronically ill and palliative care patients. It defined me as a person - listening and small deeds meant so much for so many. In particular I made a great friend who taught me so much about life lessons; she was all of 90 years young.
P: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
L: If I had to do it over, I would take more time to grow my independence, as I went from my maternal home to married home.
P: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?
L: Many women have inspired me along the way. Some of these women have chosen great public paths and others, like my friend Mary (90 year old) taught me great wisdom.
I would tell Mary how much I miss her laughter and all our special outings together.
