Jasmine
Jasmine’s resilience and bravery stems from the adversity she has faced. She spent nearly three decades of her life caught between who she really was, and who society was telling her to be. But then she made the incredible decision to transition at 30, and for Jasmine this is when life really began. She found true love, both with herself and her partner, and also professional success. Now, when she’s not empowering and supporting the trans community on her Instagram platform, she’s representing them as a successful model - and when she’s not doing that, she’s empowering customer of her hair and beauty business to look and feel their best. She’s a courageous role model, a passionate advocate, and a driven entrepreneur. Meet Jasmine. This is her story.
P: Please introduce yourself!
J: Hello, I’m Jasmine Anderson and I’m from Brisbane, Australia.
P: Describe or define yourself in your own words.
J: I’m a married 35 year old transwoman who owns and operates her own hair/beauty business, I’m a part time model and I run a trans support page online.
P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?
J: My favourite thing would be my resilience. I’ve had to face a lot of adversity in my life and my own inner strength and sense of self is the only thing that has saved me time and time again. I know who I am and I make no apologies for that.
P: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?
J: I guess the biggest life changing experience of my life is my transition. I always knew I was different from the age of 5 but due to insecurity about myself and how others would perceive me I didn’t begin my transition until I was 30. By doing so I lost friends, family, a 7 year relationship. I faced uncertainty professionally as well but none of these things made me falter. In fact I feel like my life truly began at that point.
Within a month I’d meet the man who would see me for who I am and later become my husband, my business became more successful, my modelling career really took off and I managed to land a magazine cover - but most importantly I saw the friends and family who really had my back and supported me.
P: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
J: There’s no need to be scared, things will get better. Life can be amazing. Stop punishing yourself for others mistakes.
P: What does being a woman mean to you?
J: Being a woman for me is all about balance and harmony. I’m a strong opinionated woman but I’m also someone with a great understanding of emotional self. We have a different energy to send out in the world. I’m more than a pretty face, I have purpose and power in the things I do and say.
P: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to them if they were here now?
J: Well for me it would be Lady Gaga. I would thank her for showing the world her quirky style. There’s power in her standing out and breaking stereotypes. Her support for the LGBTQIA+ community is forever appreciated and her contribution to music will never be forgotten.
