K: Please introduce yourself!

T: Hi, my name is Thimna Mafahla. I’m 23 years old and I’m from Umtata, South Africa. I moved to the US for school in 2015.

K: Describe yourself in your own words

T: Im a proud Xhosa woman. I’m a full time student currently, and I’m a mom to a wonderful baby boy. I love to sing, cook and just be around the people I love. I’m an aspiring super woman, super mom, business woman haha.

K: What is your favorite thing about yourself?

T: I love how nurturing and understanding I am. Experiences have taught me patience and perseverance as well.

K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?

T: Oh my. When I got pregnant with my baby. I wasn’t married (I’m engaged now :)) and I’d been told all my life that if I ever had a baby before marriage my life would be over. So, when I learned about my pregnancy that’s the first thing that came to mind. I had to rewire my mindset and accept my baby for the blessing that he is, and more so the birth of a new part of me. I am still in school, and I’m still a great mom despite the challenges that come with it.

K: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

T: Don’t rush to be grown. Live and enjoy your current life because you aren’t missing anything that you shouldn’t be. God’s got you for sure.

K: What does being a woman mean to you?

T: I don’t know if I can narrow this to one thing. I’m gonna try to put my thoughts into words haha.

Being a woman is a wonderful, beautiful and awesome mess! There are so many fights on the daily because of being a woman, but the strength a woman embodies is like no other.

K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

T: My mother. I love you and your strength. I love how your love isn’t just in words but your actions. I hope one day I’m as wise and beautiful as you are.
