Sylvie

Life is much more enjoyable when you do your best and appreciate yourself for that.
— Sylvie Cox

I heard Sylvie sing live last month at a candlelit gig in downtown Vancouver. By the time she came on stage I was hooked, as was the rest of the audience. She started off with an unreleased song about her mum Julie, which almost instantly moved me to tears. Sylvie’s songs about everyday experiences like falling in or out of love, feeling content, or just missing your family are not only catchy but captivating. When she sings, her stories feel like your stories. Sylvie is an emerging artist to look out for. This is her story.

P: Please introduce yourself!

S: Hello! My name is Sylvie CoX, I am a singer, songwriter and producer based in Vancouver BC.

P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

S: My favorite thing about myself is my optimism and positivity. Having a good mindset and knowing how to appreciate the little things is something that always gets me through the bad days.

P: What is one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

S: I’d tell my younger self to relax. I used to put so much pressure on myself creating unrealistic ideals in my head that I would never measure up to. Life is much more enjoyable when you do your best and appreciate yourself for that. Learning to relax is important, allowing yourself to do the activities that bring you joy not money. For me, that is anything in nature.

P: Who is one woman that you look up to? What would you say if they were here now?

S: One woman that inspires me is my mother. She is the type of person that will never take no for an answer in anything she does but like in a good way. She switched her career multiple times without looking back, and is now getting her masters and volunteering with refugees in greece. And all of this while being an incredible mom!
