Becca

Be yourself and be different! Life is way more fun if you do it the way you were designed with the gifts you were given, not living someone else’s life.
— Rebecca Milne

Becca is passionate, independent, and driven. She transforms her aspirations into actions, immersing herself fully in her hobbies and interests, especially when it comes to exploring the outdoors and fly fishing. She is inspired by other women who dip their toes in the arena of fly fishing, and is helping to provide the necessary visibility for other women to do so, as well. Meet Becca. This is her story.

K: Please introduce yourself!

R: My name is Rebecca Milne, Becca for short. I was born and raised in Texas. I’m 38 years old. I’m an attorney. I’m a fly fishing fanatic. I recently sold everything I owned, house included, to travel and fly fish the western US in my 4Runner.

K: Describe yourself in your own words

R: Straightforward. Independent. Compassionate. Sensitive. Analytical. Outdoorsy.

K: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

R: My scrappiness. I always find a way to get something done. I’m not afraid of the work it takes either.

K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?

R: In what seems like a previous life, I was married. When that ended in a painful way, I wasn’t sure who I was anymore. I felt so defined by that relationship. But through that loss, I gained my faith in Christ and in myself. That has transformed my life and given me peace with the challenges that life continues to throw at me.

K: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

R: Don’t be the same as everyone. Be yourself and be different! Life is way more fun if you do it the way you were designed with the gifts you were given, not living someone else’s life.

K: What does being a woman mean to you?

R: The balance of strength and softness. Emotional intelligence. Caring for others. Ferocity. Unshakable determination.

K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

R: I look up to a lot of women in the fly fishing industry, such as April Vokey and Hilary Hutchison, who have built success on their own terms in a predominately male sport. If they were here now, I’d buy them a drink and pick their brains on their road to success.

But of course my mother is my biggest inspiration - she always encouraged my independence and reminded me often that I could accomplish anything. If I could say anything to her, it would be thank you for pushing me to take the road less traveled. Thank you for giving me grit.
