Marie’s adventurous and inquisitive approach to life has allowed her to continually expand her worldviews. Passionate about embracing opportunities and learning about different cultures, she was offered a job on a cruise ship, where she was able to live and work. This allowed her to make money while also traveling to new places and meeting new people, giving her the chance to further explore her interests. She knows that after she finishes her studies, the sea will be calling her once again. Meet Marie. This is her story.
K: Please introduce yourself!
M: Hey, I´m Marie. I´m 21 years old, living in the north of Germany and currently studying International Management in Germany and Denmark.
K: Describe yourself in your own words
M: I would describe myself as a creative person. I love to bake fancy cakes, try the latest fashion trends or decorate my home. I can be bold but at the same time curious about new adventures. I am excited about exploring the world and seeing the most beautiful places. Being near the ocean makes me happy. What else? I am open-minded and always socializing. Meeting people from different cultures is inspiring. When it comes to realizing my thoughts, I am ambitious and unstoppable.
K: What is your favorite thing about yourself?
M: My favourite thing about myself is that I am doing what I am dreaming about. I would consider myself adventurous.
K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?
M: I always wanted to travel after finishing school, but I never wanted to spend a lot of money during that time. I applied for a job on a cruise ship. Not a big one, just a sailing yard. Unbelievable for me at that time, but I got the opportunity to travel the world as a crew member of Sea Cloud Cruises. I joined the ship in Greece and started my 6-month contract. During that time, I worked 7 days a week, saw plenty of beautiful places, found friends for a lifetime, and had such an intensive time. When I finish my studies, I will definitely go back on board.
K: What does being a woman mean to you?
M: In my world, women and men are treated equally. That means I do not define my personality by the fact that I am a woman. I am happy to be ME! In a different mood or with a different style, but always ME.
K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to them if they were here now?
M: I know it´s cheesy, but my mom is this person to me. My mom is happy when her family is happy. She is supporting me and my brother in realizing our dreams. Thank you for being the funny and caring mom you are!
