Gabrielle

Tell the truth, to others and most importantly yourself.
— Gabrielle Wong

Gabrielle, or Gabs, radiates confidence. She is outgoing and honest. She makes everyone around her comfortable, and is someone to look to and lean on. Gabs takes in everyone around her, and always listens when you have something to say. Gabs also doesn’t take life too seriously; you can always count on her for a dance, a laugh, or an all-around fun time. Meet Gabs. This is her story.

G: Personable, outgoing, loud and thoughtful.

P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

G: That I am confident in most social situations.

P: Tell us a story, what's an experience that has defined you or made you stronger?

G: I was in a relationship from the age of 15 through until 21. We had plans to buy a house and start a family, our lives were extremely intertwined, his friends were mine and my friends were his. But in the last three or so months I had realised I was outgrowing the relationship and something in me was screaming restlessly to end things. Being my sentimental-self I struggled to come to terms with ending a relationship when nothing was really wrong. But in doing that, I learnt a lot about what I am capable of, the type of people I want around me and frankly, how much love I deserve to get and deserve to give.

P: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

G: Tell the truth, to others and most importantly yourself. Gut feelings trump both heart and head.

P: What does being a woman mean to you?

G: Flaunting your natural strength, resilience and empowerment.

P: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

G: ALL of my best friends, I cannot pick one. But of course, Mum.

Whenever my friends are needing advice, I always start with “my mum would say…”. Thank you for teaching me how to react to situations, how to behave toward people and how to tolerate the negative.
