Dominiece is an insightful leader who is dedicated to serving others. On her personal journey, she has discovered the importance of healing old wounds instead of continuously patching them up, allowing her to move forward, forgive others, and become the best version of herself. This empowering experience has equipped her with the tools to guide other women on their voyage to self-discovery and personal truth. Meet Dominiece. This is her story.
K: Please introduce yourself!
D: I am Dominiece Clifton. I'm a Black woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a friend. Every day I get to show up and serve other women in the work I do as a Nutrition & Wellness Educator.
K: Describe yourself in your own words
D: I'm a Black woman on a journey of self-love, self-discovery, healing and personal development. I spent many years feeling unsure about who I was and what my purpose was. About eighteen months ago, I committed to finding more answers and also re-writing my narrative. That journey has led me to a beautiful place of healing, being able to give and receive love and being able to positively impact the lives of others.
K: What is your favourite thing about yourself?
D: Currently, I'm really in love with my growth. I spent many years feeling stuck and stagnant, hoping that one day life would get better, but then I realized it was up to ME to make my life better. I realized that it was up to me to find internal happiness and to create the life I desired and longed for. Today, I am very much so still in the early phases of this journey, but I am really loving the woman that I am becoming.
K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?
D: I spent most of my life feeling unworthy. Feeling unworthy of love, unworthy of happiness, unworthy of a life of abundance. That unworthiness stems from childhood trauma, including not knowing or ever meeting my biological father. As a child, I believed this didn't impact me much, but as a woman, I realized how deeply my wounds were. Beginning at 8 years old, I spent much of my life overweight, battling an unhealthy relationship with food, and lacking confidence because of how my body looked. I hid and shrunk myself due to this lack of confidence. I eventually got tired of feeling this way internally and in my early 30s I decided to commit to healing all of the parts of me that needed love. I committed to forgiving those that hurt me. Forgiving myself. And re-writing my narrative. For the first time in my life, I begin to feel empowered instead of as a victim, and by shifting my perspective it allowed me to decide who I wanted to be in the world and how I wanted to show up. That has led me to become a wellness coach for moms, and empowering other women to heal & re-write their own stories as well.
K: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
D: I would affirm to her that she is worthy. Worthy of giving and receiving love, worthy of happiness and worthy and capable of achieving the life she desires.
K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?
D: I am inspired by many women, it's hard to pinpoint one particular woman. These days, I feel really inspired by business mogul Ronne Brown. She has defied the odds stacked against her and built an empire for herself and her family. Looking at where her life started, most would be surprised at what she has achieved today. But I think she is such a beautiful example of how our mindset is the only thing that oppresses us and stops us from achieving the lives we desire. Once we decide that we are worthy and deserving, once we commit to doing the work to get us to that vision, we are powerful and unstoppable. Ronne Brown is the perfect example of a woman that has re-wrote her narrative and created a life of abundance for herself and her family.
