Dayenne is a motivated entrepreneur and a positive spirit. She is the creative director and owner of 74thavenue, a fashion brand that specializes in designing handmade sweaters, jewelry, and accessories. Her innovative vision and drive to pursue her dreams in the realm of fashion were always present, but the COVID-19 lockdown motivated her to begin her small business. As a resilient stage 4 cancer survivor, she continues to face each new challenge with unbelievable courage and optimism. Meet Dayenne. This is her story.

K: Please introduce yourself!

D: My name is Dayenne Bekker 46 turning 47 really soon ( 19 June), I’m a mom, wife, friend, entrepreneur, fashion stylist and designer @74thavenue.

K: Describe yourself in your own words

D: I’m a positive, honest, driven, creative, hard working women who loves life, family and God ;). I try to live life to the fullest and to be a inspiration to other women to love themselves too.

K: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

D: My smile and the way I think.

K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?

D: I do have a story that has made me stronger but I don’t if I would say that defines me. I’m a stage 4 cancer survivor and that made me stronger in each and every way. It made me look at things differently and to go about things differently too. But does that define me, I don’t know? I’m more than a cancer survivor, I’m a person that believes that by being an example, and honest and open about ourselves, we can help others. I think what defines me is that I’m a proud, strong black woman that is going for her dreams and not letting anything stop me from doing that!

K: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

D: Trust your gut and that little voice inside you.

K: What does being a woman mean to you?

D: Everything, I love being a woman even though I am some what of a Tom boy.

K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

D Michelle Obama and Maya Angelou. If I chose Michelle, I think I would tell her how I love the example she was in the White House and still is for black women around the world.
