Cydney

It’s hard to think that it wasn’t long ago that women weren’t able to do the things we see as normal today. It’s amazing how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.
— Cydney Horner

Cydney, with Elora (her happy place)

P: Please introduce yourself!

C: Hi my name is Cydney!! I’m 25 years old and I’m a new mom to my beautiful baby girl, Elora. Since being at home on maternity leave and not being able to leave the house, I had to find a way to keep myself sane in these crazy times and being home with a baby 24/7, I started my own business making jewelry out of polymer clay and it’s become something that I absolutely love doing!

P: Describe or define yourself in your own words.

C: I would describe myself as being a kind and thoughtful introvert. I would gladly choose a night in watching a movie over going out any night of the week.

P: What is your favourite thing about yourself?

C: My favourite thing about myself is that I am a mother. Becoming a mom has completely changed how I think about life. I’m no longer living for myself. My daughter is my whole world, I live to make her life the best it can be and in doing that it’s making me a better person.

P: What is one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

C: A piece of advice I would give my younger self is to stop trying to make everyone happy and focus on yourself. No matter what you do, there’s almost always going to be one person that isn’t happy. Your own happiness/mental health comes first.

P: What does being a woman mean to you?

C: It’s hard to think that it wasn’t long ago that women weren’t able to do the things we see as normal today. It’s amazing how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go. I always thought that we needed to prove that we were just as good as men, but the truth is that we’re far greater than them. We create life. And that alone is the most wonderful gift that I’ve ever experienced.

P: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

C: One woman that inspires me is my Nani. She’s the greatest person I’ve ever known. She left her home with her husband and young kids in Hungary, running from the war and being shot at. She managed to make it to Canada and start a new life for her family. She would have given anything to make her family happy. Unfortunately she passed 6 years ago. She always sang a song to my sister and I in Hungarian, the English translation is somewhere along the lines of “if a button falls off, don’t worry about it, there’s thousands that can replace it.” She meant so much to me that my daughters middle name is after her.

If she were here now, I would tell her that I’ve found my one “button” and we’ve created a life and family together that I would give anything for.
