Adrienne

Being a woman, to me, means making the choices that are best for me and not what is expected of me. It means living my life to the best of my abilities, regardless of if I fall short of some societal benchmark.

K: Please introduce yourself!

A: Hi, I’m Adrienne Kambouris 🖤

K: Describe yourself in your own words

A: I’m a wife, mom, veteran, and MD/PhD student. I’m super conscientious, a very enthusiastic Ravens fan, and I have a dry sense of humor.

K: What is your favorite thing about yourself?

A: My determination and drive. Even when I get knocked down (and I do get knocked down), I don’t stay down.

K: Tell us a story. Have you had an experience that’s defined you or made you stronger?

A: I definitely believe that my military service made me the person that I am. I learned so much about myself, my capabilities, and my strengths during my 10 years of service. A lot of the skills I developed I still use today.

K: What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

A: Always advocate for yourself and your future.

K: What does being a woman mean to you?

A: Being a woman, to me, means making the choices that are best for me and not what is expected of me. It means living my life to the best of my abilities, regardless of if I fall short of some societal benchmark.

K: Who is one woman that inspires you? What would you say to her if she were here now?

A: I admire Rosalind Franklin. She was a researcher that determined the crystallized structure of DNA, however her data was shared with Watson and Crick without her permission. They went on to earn the Nobel Prize. I would tell her that she contributed valuable findings to science and she is now celebrated all over the world.
